Welcome to our August issue! It’s bittersweet for us as we recently found out that it’s our penultimate issue – we have lots to fit in though, so prepare yourself for a packed magazine!
Jeremy Stacey takes Drummer’s cover this month for the first time in his career. The UK session master has a lot going on right now – he recently left his longstanding gig with Noel Gallagher’s High Flying Birds to join King Crimson, and he’s relishing the challenges and change.
Karl Brazil is another busy session player – he gave us his top tips for success in the industry and shared his philosophy on taking gigs that push you out of your comfort zone. Jason Bittner joins us from Flotsam and Jetsam and reflects on his metal practice days at Berklee, while Jack Prince gives us the lowdown on his Bill Ryder-Jones tour, supporting Mumford & Sons.
Fancy being part of a world record attempt for the world’s largest virtual drumming ensemble? Bang The Drum 2016 takes place on 3 October to raise awareness of the worldwide plight of homeless children. Read more about the project on page 38 and get prepared to join in with their tuition on page 92.
There’s a chance to win a gorgeous La Rosa Studio Red cajón from EMD in our competition, and we have an exclusive guest tuition page with leading online educator Mike Johnston on ‘groove freedom’. There’s also Caught Live featuring Pete Lockett’s recent tour and a report from a rainy but rocking Download 2016, as well as all of our usual tuition, news and reviews.
Join us next month as we say goodbye to Drummer and, in the meantime, enjoy issue 157.
