24th August:
I need to steady my hand and my mind to get these few thoughts down, because today has been the most thrilling day of my life. I can honestly say I’ve never been more proud to be part of this community: one that has never had ideas above its station, and has never sought special treatment. All we’ve ever wanted is the freedom to be perfectly ordinary, and the right to contribute on exactly the same basis as all other citizens. That shouldn’t have been too much to ask, and yet for years it seemed to be far, far too much to ask. We’ve been treated as scapegoats, as trash, as if our very existence is ofensive. But not today. And not from this day on. With the new law that has just been passed, we are “CyberNats” no more – unless we choose to be.
