In this first part of a two-part article I would like to consider some commonly used terms which would benefit from further examination.

One of the areas which I often find causes problems is what to call someone who previously voted no in the 2014 referendum. Many Independence supporters call these people no voters. Let’s look at why this might not be such a good idea. In psychology there is the concept of cognitive dissonance. Cognitive dissonance is where you believe something very strongly and yet act in the opposite way to what you believe. You experience unease or sometimes even pain because your actions are in direct contradiction to your core beliefs.

What we need to focus on is how to activate progressive values in moderate conservatives and moderate progressives so that they will lend their support to us in our campaign for self determination.’
