GOING UP
• ACES Europe (the European Capitals and Cities of Sport Federation) has designated Genoa ‘European Capital of Sport’ for 2024. The decision will boost the Ligurian capital’s sports tourism and help restructure facilities and resources for the city. Genoa has a long sporting tradition and is already planning its 2024 programme to promote not just sport for champions but also for residents of all ages. The last Italian city to take the title was Turin in 2015.
• A study by Travelzoo has highlighted some of the world’s alternative mustvisit landmarks, after quizzing more than 1,000 travellers about their top ‘off-the-beatentrack’ choices. Rome’s Baths of Caracalla (one of the best-preserved sites from ancient Roman times) claimed third place on the list, just behind Alcatraz in the USA and the CN Tower in Toronto, Canada.
