RUST DISEASES

These appear as yellow-brown spots that release spores on the undersides of leaves, weakening bushes in severe cases. Gooseberry rust overwinters on sedges.

HOW TO CONTROL: Rusts have to be tolerated in the absence of approved fungicides, although pruning out the worst affected shoots and removing nearby sedges can help.
