BERRIEDTREASURE
You can imagine how pleased I was to be able to transport my 2017 berry harvest via wheelbarrow from allotment to home; blackcurrant redcurrants, ‘Morello’ cherries and two types of gooseberry. Being stopped by other plot holders who were loud in their praise at my haul – one lady took a photograph to send to her parents in Korea – served only to add to my already high degree of self-satisfaction. However, I discovered later via my wife (who was dealing with the surfeit of fruit) that ‘buried’ in virtually every ‘Morello’ cherry was a cherry fruit fly maggot, rendering the entire harvest unusable. Our hens, however, were very grateful for the unexpected addition to their ‘five a day’. Next year, cherry fruit fly traps are a must!
