I love this time of year – the days are longer and warmer and it feels like you can get so much more done during the extended daylight hours.
Which is particularly handy if, like me,
you’re a keen gardener. In this issue
we’ve got some great ideas for sowing a
colourful display of summer annuals (p.32), as well as some practical advice on how you can grow wild perennials, no matter what type of conditions you have in your garden (p.28). We also prove that you don’t need a big garden to grow your own produce, just a little imagination (p.36) – so there’s no excuse not to get planting this weekend! May and June also bring with them an abundance of fresh seasonal produce, so in this issue we’ve got some delicious recipe ideas for making the most of it (p.40). And don’t forget to take a look at page 22 for our mouth-watering elderflower recipes which really do capture the flavour of summer – the elderflower fritters are a favourite of mine. If you enjoy knowing where your food comes from, turn to page 52 where we meet an inspiring artisan cheesemaker from Kent along with the gorgeous goats who provide her with milk for her cheese. Now is the time when young badger cubs start to emerge from their setts, and you can discover more about their secret lives on page 90. And, if you’re up in Scotland, this is the best time to spot newly fledged white- tailed eagles – find out more about them on page 96. Finally, don’t forget to take your camera with you when you head out into the countryside over the coming weeks. We’re launching our 2015 photographic competition in this issue (p.68) and we’d love you to enter. There are 12 categories to choose from with some
fantastic prizes for the winners and a chance for your
photo to feature in our 2016 calendar. So what are you
waiting for...? Happy snapping!

I loved this magazine when it was in publication but only managed to buy 3 issues before it was discontinued. Delighted to find back copies in a digital format so thank you Pocketmags! Jacquie, Kirkintilloch, Scotland. Reviewed 04 April 2020
