Around 15,000 people marched through the streets of Budapest in April to commemorate the Scottish missionary Jane Haining.
The annual March of the Living to mark Hungary’s Holocaust Memorial Day was this year dedicated to Miss Haining, who died in Auschwitz after refusing to abandon the Jewish girls in her care at the Scottish Mission boarding school.
The march by torchlight on Sunday April 14 was led by Scottish Secretary David Mundell. The Rev Aaron Stevens, minister of St Columba’s Church in Budapest, also took part, with members of his congregation.
