It’s now possible to fly direct to Bali, as national airline Garuda Indonesia has just launched the first non-stop service from the UK. Thrice-weekly flights from London Heathrow to Denpasar will make it easier than ever to reach the island’s extraordinary beaches and rice-paddy landscapes, as well as visit cultural sights such as Hindu temple Pura Tirta Empul (a worshipper is pictured here). Bear in mind that the return leg still involves a stopover in Jakarta. (Outbound flights take 15h35; return from £800;garuda-indonesia.com)
