Mountain highs

The Photographer’s Story

I grew up surrounded by mountains in South Tyrol, and I’ve always felt a strong connection to them. My parents would often take me out on easy hikes when I was a kid. I wasn’t so keen to get outside then, but now it’s my passion. I started photographing the mountains six years ago in my final year of school, when I’d just drive around and hike. In the last few years, I’ve travelled widely in the Alps, exploring regions in Austria, France and Switzerland. It’s become quite an addiction. With its high mountains, forests, rivers and glaciers, the range is an awesome playground for landscape photographers. There are lots of roads and paths, so it’s possible to shoot some fantastic scenery simply via a drive and a 10-minute walk. But for a unique image you have to be willing to hike for a few hours. It’s hard for me to describe what it’s like to be up in the mountains. It’s a feeling of freedom – I can leave my everyday problems behind and go on a great trip, sharing an adventure with my friends. For me, that’s the most important thing.
