Caravan magazine's Destination of the Month: Norfolk

Posted Wednesday, May 24, 2017   |   656 views   |   Leisure Interest   |   Comments (0) Limitless skies and uncluttered beaches await you in the the county that boasts east, north and west-facing coastlines..

Few places are as pleasant to amble around than Norfolk and the much of the northern coastline is studded with delightful fishing villages and beautiful uncluttered beaches. Start your trip on the A149 near Hunstanton and meander along this coastal road. Our favourite beach is Holkham Beach, where your toes will be tickled with every possible texture of golden sand. There are lots of free car parks along this stretch of coast, so take your time and pick one. When you’ve had your fill of the sea air, grab a dressed Cromer crab sandwich from a local deli or sample one of the many great restaurants along this coastline. You can carry along the coast for as long as you wish, too. Finish your trip by watching the sun set over Cromer and have a moonlight stroll along the famous historic pier. Perfect!

Campsites to try

Kelling Heath
Weybourne, Holt, Norfolk NR25 7HW
01263 588181              kellingheath.co.uk

It’s a tricky act to pull off a large spacious campsite without making it go too much like a bingo-and-disco holiday camp, but Kelling Heath has managed to make big campsites cool. Pitches are mainly on grass and the amenities on site – a well-stocked mini-supermarket and several great restaurants – are so good you could be forgiven for never leaving. With acres of rural woodland and grounds to explore, you’ll not get bored here, either.

Deepdale Backpackers & Camping
Deepdale Farm, Burnham Deepdale, Norfolk PE31 8DD
01485 210256

Set in the small village of Burnham Deepdale, this modestly sized campsite only accepts campervans (not motorhomes or caravans) on grassed pitches with electric hook-ups. It’s a very laid-back place with decent toilet and shower blocks. A convenience store and some great pubs are just a short stroll away. If any mates want to join you it also offers bunkhouse accommodation, too.

Where to eat

White Horse Brancaster
Main Road, Brancaster Staithe, Norfolk PE31 8BY
01485 210262          whitehorsebrancaster.co.uk

Within walking distance of Deepdale, the White Horse is a real gem offering a great selection of food including such local delights as Cromer crab, Brancaster oysters and classic favourites like fish and chips and Norfolk rump steak. With a selection of great hand-pulled ales always served it’s a real treat.

Essential food to taste…

If you’ve never eaten a dressed crab before, then you’re in for a treat in north Norfolk, with many restaurants serving this delicacy. Better still, grab one from a deli and munch it on the beach.
