Executions are something of a rarity in the US state of Colorado. It’s exactly 20 years ago this month that killer Gary Davis was put to death by lethal injection, his execution being the first there since capital punishment was reinstated in the 70s. In January’s US Executions – The Forgotten Decade we featured the case of Louis Monge, the last man put to death in the state – and indeed the US – before the suspension of capital punishment. Now the series returns to Colorado for the fascinating case of John Bizup. He’d been convicted of first-degree murder after shooting dead a taxi-driver in a robbery-murder in 1960 but his pleas for mercy and a succession of postponed execution dates turned the case into a grim saga…
