CYBERPUNK 2077 from CD Projekt Red was a hotly anticipated AAA game. Development started in 2012, but it missed four release dates this year. It sold 8 million pre-order copies, and the buzz was palpable. Then the wheels came off the bus. There were bugs, poor performance, and a host of technical issues we won’t go into here (although we do on PG15). Patches followed quickly—it received a whopping 43.5GB patch before release, and another on day one. Patches aren’t uncommon in games, where discs have to be prepared weeks in advance, and the internet makes distribution after release easy. However, these patches were well beyond simple tweaks.
