ARM VERSUS X86 is a battle for the ages, but the idea of PCs powered by Arm processors is a notion that’s always just over the horizon. Just as commercially viable nuclear fusion is always 30 years away, Arm’s assimilation looms large, but never happens—until now. In the last few months, it’s become clear that Arm might be ready to take over the PC.

The tipping point, when we look back years from now from our brain-embedded Arm PCs, will likely be 2024. That’s the year that Qualcomm’s exclusive deal with Microsoft to provide chips with the Armcompatible version of Windows expires and we see just what the market is capable of.
