Nvidia’s 4090 is the world’s best consumer GPU. Now, we have another world record: the highest clocked GPU to run a 3D benchmark. It was set by a overclocker called Cens, who tweaked the chip to run at 3.825GHz. The graphics card was a Colorful RTX 4090 iGame LAB, a limited edition card that has rigorously binned GPUs to find the most robust. It also earned top ranking in the 8K optimized list for Superposition, scoring 18,701. Ampere GPUs would struggle to reach 3GHz, while Ada Lovelace has proved more amenable to high frequencies, which bodes well for Blackwell, the next generation due in 2024. 4GHz is getting tantalizingly close.
