This month, I’m moving house. Well, to be more accurate, I’m trying to move into a house, and out of a tiny apartment. Working from home is all well and good, but when you don’t have a home office (or a workbench, or good internet, or storage space…) it’s quite the struggle. Add in nasty neighbors and a constantly busy road, and you’ve got a perfect storm stuffed in a cramped space.
House-hunting is a tricky business, but I have to hand it to the software developers; seeing what properties are available nearby has never been easier. It keeps me from wasting time on homes that won’t work for me. If I find a promising place, the first thing I do is scroll down to check internet speeds. 1.7Mb/s? Pass.
Satellite maps and 360-degree street views make checking out an area without leaving my couch a breeze. Even though I’m immersed in the tech world, it still amazes me how much information I have at my fingertips. The tiny rectangle in my pocket keeps me updated when new properties become available, and buzzes with alerts from real estate brokers who think they’ve got the perfect place for me.
