Strength endurance is essential for maintaining efficiency and speed. Try personal trainer Joe Peat’s heavy-lifting circuit to run stronger for longer


I ’ll use circuit training with my runners as it trains muscular endurance, which will also improve work capacity. However, I don’t want my clients training with light weights!” says Peat. “Strength is the foundation for development of the rest of physical qualities. Strength endurance is the ability to produce for time. If you can produce more strength for more time, the faster you will travel over distance. Athletes also like it as it has the added benefit of changing body composition, often seeing further decreases in body fat. For runners, the strength endurance circuit will target the lower body and core. Circuit training is demanding and will usually only be programmed for three to four weeks.”
