What is the biggest challenge you are facing at the moment?

I could talk about personal challenges that I experience in my working week, but what I think it is more important to talk about is the challenges that we are experiencing as mental health nurses collectively.

‘Mental health’ is clearly having its time at the moment. It is great that more and more people are finding the courage to talk about their own mental health difficulties.

Reducing stigma about mental health is encouraging us to seek help when we are struggling with our mental health, but we have to ensure that all voices are heard within this narrative.

I think we need to move away from focusing exclusively on individualistic, biological explanations of mental health and start to publicly acknowledge the intersections between mental health, poverty and other social inequalities.
