Inside the mind of… Ben Hannigan

Mental Health Nursing meets the Professor of mental health nursing at Cardiff University and newly elected chair of Mental Health Nurse Academics UK@benhannigan

What is the biggest challenge you are facing at the moment?

From January 2019 I’ll be serving a two-year term as chair of Mental Health Nurse Academics UK (MHNAUK).

I’ll be following Professor Steven Pryjmachuk from the University of Manchester, who has done a superb job leading the group since the start of 2017.

For readers of Mental Health Nursing who don’t yet know what MHNAUK is and does, we formed in 2003 and now represent over 60 higher education institutions engaged in mental health nursing education, research and policy development.

We have a website at, which we keep upto- date with publications, position papers, responses to consultations and notes from our meetings. We also support the International Mental Health Nursing Research Conference, which takes place in September each year.
