I am in the middle of my first revalidation – the process that UK nurses and midwives undertake to maintain their registration with the NMC. This encourages you to reflect on the role of the NMC Code in your everyday work and show that you are ‘living’ the standards set out within it. Undertaking this process has made me look back over my time as a nurse and I have realised a few things. Firstly, that I have worked in mental health now for 23 years despite making an unpromising start.
