Community health services need to be “significantly strengthened” alongside a greater and stronger workforce to meet the growing demand for mental health services in the NHS, according to a major review by Lord Carter and published by NHS Improvement.
The report, NHS operational productivity: unwarranted variations, is the result of working with many mental health trusts and providers of community services since January 2017. It found the need for a stronger mechanism for sharing between the two services.
The document said: “As a result of that engagement, this review has identified critical and unwarranted variations in all key resource areas.
