In 2010 prime minister David Cameron made a commitment to make the UK a leader in dementia care and research by 2020, and to improve awareness of the disease. Included within this challenge was the intent to advance post-diagnostic support to increase person-centred care approaches.
Post-diagnostic dementia care is defined as an essential component towards supporting the needs of people with dementia, their families and carers. Despite us having an ageing population, the increased pressure on clinical services has significantly impacted on the delivery of post-diagnostic support.
