ROGUE RALLY FANS TO BE HUNTED DOWN
The FIA has delivered its most significant step ever in improving rally spectator safety – a step rally director Yves Matton says will be key to the sport’s future. Alongside the announcement of the Rally Safety Guidelines comes news that the FIA is working closely with DFKI – the German Research Centre for Artificial Intelligence – in an effort to identify a reckless minority among the spectating groups around the world who are spoiling the sport for the majority. FIA head of circuit and rally safety Stuart Robertson told MN: “The FIA has initiated a project that will help us detect the locations of spectators through image recognition, anonymously, using onboard cameras and various other tools.
