Washington, D.C.—Mourners hold a vigil on June 12 at the White House for victims of a shooting at a gay nightclub in Orlando, Florida, where Omar Mateen, a 29-year-old U.S. citizen, killed 49 people and wounded 53 more before police killed him. It is the worst mass shooting in U.S. history. The FBI had questioned Mateen twice in recent years over suspected links to terrorism but found no evidence. Mateen, who was born in New York to an Afghan family, made a 911 call during his massacre swearing loyalty to the Islamic State militant group (ISIS).
