IT WAS an unlucky 13 for Scottish and Southern Electric (SSE) after power outages on the morning of January 3 on Islay saw the service off and on more than a dozen times.
SSE staff were onsite and solved the problem within four hours, but one resident fears the problem is a return to the ‘bad old days’.
Alastair Redman, postmaster at Portnahaven, said: ‘While our electrical supply has improved dramatically since the spate of power cuts and surges in back 2012, the people of Islay are still blighted with a plague of power surges which causes great harm to both residential and business concerns alike.
