■ Licensing board chairman Catriona Maclean of Ardgour always has a barbed comment to make at meetings when licensees are fending for themselves in submitting and speaking to the reasons for their particular application. ‘You’re not represented by one of these people, then’?, is her usual introduction, in referring to the serried ranks of solicitors present in the chambers on behalf of many of the applicants.
■ As you’d expect, there is a lot of local comment about the effects of the current NUPE selective strike action. Quite a few folk have complained about not getting their bins lifted despite the fact they live in the ‘untargeted areas’. Others have marvelled at having their bins emptied although they do reside in ‘targeted areas’.
