Why self build? Besides the chance to get a truly unique custom design, self build gives you the chance to add accessibility features and the latest technology, such as underfl heating, central vacuum and automated home technology, incorporated for a fraction of the cost you might think. You can design your self build to be green, which adds up to energy savings for you in the long run. Bespoke homes are also more profitable- you can often save up to 20-40% on the market value and get more for it when you decide to sell.
Most importantly, anyone can do it. You don’t have to possess mad carpentry skills yourself, you can hire people to project manage and do the work, or choose to carry out some of the work yourself to save money. Less than 5% of self builders carry out all the work themselves, with about 20% being involved with any of the building at all. So don’t get put off by the term ‘self build’!
