OM Meets…Andrew McGonigle

Andrew McGonigle aka Doctor Yogi tells OM that there’s no such thing as being ‘good’ at yoga, it’s all about reconnecting with the breath and the body and learning to move mindfully

A renowned anatomy expert on the London yoga scene, where he assists on multiple teacher training programmes at various leading studios, Andrew McGonigle is the mastermind behind OM’s new 360º Yoga anatomy academy. When he’s not teaching or sharing his expert knowledge with his students, he’s also a keen hiker and every bit a people person. OM caught up with him to discover more about his yoga story.

How did you first get into yoga

I first started practicing meditation back in 2005 to help manage stress while I was graduating medical school. This naturally led on to me being drawn to yoga. I was a big exercise junky at the time and I guess I wanted to try yoga for the same reasons that a lot of people do: to keep fit, as a way to relieve stress and to improve my flexibility. I quickly realised that yoga was much more than a form of exercise. The impact that it had on my mind and quality of life was quite profound.
