SWIMMING SIBLINGS, SWIMMING WILD

Ella Foote meets Jack Hudson, author of Swim Wild and the youngest of the Wild Swimming Brothers

SWIMTERVIEW

As a sibling, one of three, with two brothers, I was looking forward to meeting Jack Hudson, the youngest of the Wild Swimming Brothers. Jack’s book Swim Wild is out this month (19 April). It is a tale of swimming but also a story about family and swimmers who have swum before us.

Jack and I met at his local pool, Brockwell Lido in South London. The water was a cool 3.2 degrees after a cold week with snow covering much of the country. We both agree it won’t be a long swim. Jack, the youngest of the Wild Swimming Brothers, is in his own words, more introverted than the others. We share cold water tales as we slip into the blue.

About Outdoor Swimmer

Our April issue is our one-year anniversary issue, and it's a cracker to get you in the mood for the start of the main outdoor swimming season. On the training front, we've got a couple of kick and pull sets to try out or a fitness and technique boost, and would look at how poor technique may not only slow you down but also be a factor in shoulder injuries. Our contributor Becky Horsbrugh relates how she became a hero for a day in Bangladesh when she swam across the Bangla Channel. Then, just in case you thought outdoor swimming was a new thing, Richard Nelsson tells us the story of two swimmers from the 1950s who went about swimming in every tarn in the Lake District, naked.
