Keep swimming and dream big with H2open’s top 12 ways to help you keep motivated through the winter

1. Go for a Winter Dip

The nights are drawing in, there’s a chill in the air and the water temperatures are heading towards single figures... what better idea than a bracing outdoor swim? While it might seem madness, winter swimming aficionados say that it’s not only fun but can help combat depression, boost the immune system, circulation and even the libido.

Follow our tips for cold water swimming (below) and check out our gear guide (over the page) for all the kit you need to safely thrill to the chill.

2. Enter a Winter Swimming Competition

Do you like cake? Do you like silly hats? Do you like swimming? Winter swimming competitions are a great introduction to the world of cold water swimming.

International Winter Swimming Association (IWSA) competitions include the UK Cold Water Swimming Championships at Tooting Bec Lido in London and the Big Chill Swim in Windermere – both include short races where the emphasis is on fun rather than endurance.
