If you have aspirations towards dictatorship, writing a book is quite a good place to start.

It’s ‘my book, my rules’. When I was writing Swell, A Waterbiography, I went full Kim Jong-il when I was deciding who I would include as my swimming heroes. Some of them were obvious, like Annette Kellerman and Agnes Beckwith.

Annette was famous, glamorous and very showbiz, a ‘Diving Venus’. Agnes, too, led an extraordinary aquatic life, a rolemodel for girls and women. But not all my swimming heroes are swimmers.
