WELCOME Editor’s letter

Despite being an Olympic sport, open water swimming doesn’t garner the same media coverage as football or cricket. Even with massive and continuing growth in outdoor swimming over the past 10 years, our sport remains authentic and accessible. While the records of elite Olympic athletes may seem like a world away from our own swims, around the world there are everyday heroes pushing the boundaries in swimming. One such swimmer is the inspirational Kim Chambers, the only woman to swim the Farallon Islands (p30).
