The irst Scottish Winter Swimming Championships certainly got of to a challenging start. Several weeks before the event, Taymouth Marina Restaurant was gutted in a ire and swimmers arrived to a partially boarded up site. There was to be no indoor catering, or indeed anywhere to shelter from the raw March cold. Nay bother. Winter swimmers are made of sterner stuff.
Winds of 45mph were forecast and duly arrived on the morning of the event, blowing in a north westerly direction across the marina and straight across the swim lanes. Then came sleety rain and snow lurries, and inally sunshine. The event took place over several hours of just one day but we were treated to different weather conditions for every race.
