Take time to notice insects, says Susanne Masters

A haze of mayflies dancing over water heralds the arrival of summer. We notice them more in their final life stage when they are airborne and fluttering their diaphanous wings, and miss their nymph life stage which is when they live underwater. Perhaps nymph conjures up images of nubile water sprites – certainly not what I think about on seeing the bristly many-legged critters that are mayfly nymphs.
