Anna* arrived for her first coaching session in a state of distress. After taking a few deep breaths, she managed to tell me, between sobs, that she needed some coaching about her relationship with her teenage son. ‘I think he hates me. We used to be such great friends and have fun together, and he was a really loving boy. Now he is 16 and it’s as if he has been taken away and replaced by someone I don’t know any more! I feel as though I’m in mourning for the son I used to have.’ Anna broke down in tears again.
