Kate Humble

The TV presenter, author and farm owner talks about the redemptive power of walking and what she values most in her life

shared values

I love walking; it is so simple yet can be really life-affirming. You connect with the seasons, solve problems, release sorrows and find inspiration. I’m hoping my book about walking will encourage people to reconnect with the outside world.

I quote well-known walkers in the book, such as Thoreau and Dylan Thomas and others for whom walking has transformed their lives, like Ursula Martin. When she was diagnosed with cancer, her illness took away the life she had, and she had to find an alternative, which was walking. She didn’t see it as brave; it just made her feel normal again.
