DIANA BERESFORD-KROEGER has found success as one of the most well-informed scientific voices in Canada. This March, the botanist, medical biochemist, and environmental author, who already has six books and hundreds of articles to her name, released The Global Forest, a feature-length documentary made with Winnipeg director Jeff McKay. North American screenings sold out last fall, and prompted renewed interest in the author’s bestselling 2010 essay collection, Call of the Forest: The Forgotten Wisdom of Trees, which served as the basis for the documentary. Beijing’s Commercial Press recently acquired rights to the title in simplified Chinese, and Beresford-Kroeger and her agent, Stuart Bernstein, are anticipating more foreign rights sales as a result the film’s premiere.
