Editor’s Note
IN JULY 2016, the Ontario provincial government announced its inaugural culture strategy. The plan, led by the Ministry of Tourism, Culture, and Sport, was intended to encourage participation in the arts and to increase the sector’s overall economic impact.
Included among the plan’s goals was support for the increased use of Canadian-authored books in the educational system. The government also pledged added financial support for cultural activities in Indigenous communities. At the time, tourism, culture, and sport minister Eleanor McMahon told Q&Q: “We’re investing in CanLit. Full stop.”
