V Sets to Newcastle No More
Chris Walters reports on the changes to NSW Intercity operations, which has seen the withdrawal of V sets, and most H sets, from the Central Coast, replaced by new Mariyung D sets.

PImba Crossing
On a recent trip, returning home to Darwin from Perth, via Port Augusts in South Australia, Phil Cross spent some time at Pimba on the Nullarbor Plain. Once the junction for the Woomera branch line, Pimba remains an important crossing point on the Trans Australian Railway, and Phil observed its 1846 metre crossing loop being put to good use.
Queensland Rail turns 160
On Wednesday 9 July, Queensland Rail announced that three steam train trips would be operating during July and August "to kick off its 160th birthday celebrations". The trains would be hauled by Queensland Rail's 1958-vintage Walkers BB18¼ steam locomotive 1089, affectionately known as "Bety".
