Retro Cars  |  July 2012
Fergal McGovern has developed something of a reputation for building the finest Opels on the planet, and this latest project that you’ll have spotted on the cover could be his best yet. Taking a BMW E34 M5 and cutting the body from the floorpan, Fergal has created an immense Ascona M5 hybrid and plans to take it drifting. Custom car builds don’t come much more hardcore than this!
Elsewhere in the issue you’ll find a Lexus V8-engined Mk3 Ford Cortina, a beautifully patina’d ’59 Aussie import VW Beetle, a pristine BMW E23, a 50s Vanguard racer and transporter combo, and a slammed E24 BMW 6 series. We’ve also looked at a pair of 1980s turbo hatchbacks that you can now pick up for as little as £2,000: the Fiat Uno i.e and Renault 5 Gordini.
Of course you’ll also find our regular Lock Up feature, this month focusing on a quiet corner of Nottinghamshire that has been turned a tad American, and a technical guide on wheel fitment from the boys at Retro Power. We’ve more inside for you too including the latest and greatest from California’s Toyota Fest show and a report from Goodwood’s Breakfast Club.
