When the course committee begins work on Friday October 16th, they will drop the start buoys for the 51st time. The 2014 Regatta went out in style, but the pomp and circumstance has settled and the elite athletes are, for the most part, staying at home in the pre-Olympic year. This will not be the year of the Great Eight or the second Great Eight or the Lightweight Great Eight. Rather, this will be a year to celebrate the thriving US National Team, the clubs, the stalwarts, the colleges, the locals, and the opportunity to race upstream, against the current for three miles in dodgy New England weather. When the elites can’t make the trip, a backlog of eager, young (and not quite as young) oarsmen are ready to contest the flagship events and here’s a preview of what you can expect to see from the 2015 Championship fields.
