Can you really perform on a vegan diet?

Veganism is no longer considered to be a wacky, alternative or extreme lifestyle. In the US alone six percent of the population now claims to be vegan and more than half a million people in the UK have now adopted a vegan diet.

The vegan diet is entirely plant based, including vegetables, cereals, peas, beans, nuts, seeds and fruits. Any foods from animals (e.g.honey) is excluded, together with ready-made products that may also contain animal ingredients.

The new-found popularity of the diet is fuelled by a number of factors including environmental awareness, health, welfare and ethical concerns, as well as social pressure. Whilst it is suggested that a plant eating diet is associated with lower levels of cholesterol, blood pressure and a possible reduced risk of heart disease and cancer, there has been very little conclusive research done in this area.
