The Stax finger clicking logo is undoubtedly one of the most recognised icons in music. It’s certainly up there with the Stones’ tongue. As happenstance would have it the output of the Stax studio and its numerous artists also influenced, inspired and drove practically every artist you and I hold dear. That one small sanctum in Memphis forged a sound that was utterly unique; raw and primal yet smooth and sweet. Paul Richie visited The Stax Museum where he spoke with long time staffers James Cross and Rosie Thigpen about the studio and label’s early days, the era in which Rufus Thomas, Otis Redding
and numerous other legends cut some of the greatest tracks committed to wax.

Shindig! magazine was born in 1992 as a cut and paste garage-punk fanzine by the name of Gravedigger. A few years later, it was reinvented as Shindig! as a homage to the TV show that took The British Invasion of America and laid the foundations for the awe-inspiring music that followed. Andy Morten joined the team in 1997 and helped the magazine reach newsstands across the world. Shindig! celebrated its 50th issue in 2016.
Shindig! magazine was created in honour of rock’s forsaken royalty and all the weird and wonderful bands that make the genre great.
