In crochet, each stitch we make is a slightly different height, so at the start of a row or round, we need to get the hook up to the right height. How is this done? The answer is to work turning chains (t-ch).
Understanding turning chains is vital to being able to create crochet fabrics with the right shape. The height of the stitch you’re working on the next row or round will determine the number of chains you need. The table on the right shows you how many chains you need in your turning chain for each of the different stitches. The extra column will be explained opposite.
