CROCHET Unravelled With Becky Skuse
How do I do post stitches?
Brush up on your technique with our simple guide…
Simple to work but so useful for creating an array of wonderful textures in your crochet fabric, post stitches are the unsung heroes of hookery! Once you know how, you can make front and back post stitches in various lengths and combine them in almost infinite ways to open up a whole new world of touchable crochet – try basketweave patterns, ribbing, cables, crocodile stitch, Bavarian crochet and many more.
Post stitches are real crochet rebels because making them involves breaking the usual crochet rules! To make a standard crochet stitch, we usually insert the hook into the top of the next stitch on the row below – but not with post stitches. To make a post stitch, we instead insert the hook around the long stem or post of the stitch on the row below. Working the rest of the stitch is easy peasy after that, but I’ll show you just what to do.
