Dyeing yarn is a recent addition to Sally Scanlon’s creative roster. The Gloucestershire-based printmaker and textile artist creates designs inspired by nature and the countryside, and is fond of using techniques like collagraph printmaking. Sally first began dyeing yarn three years ago. “I’d been eco-dyeing on silk for some time and loved the soft colours I achieved from locally foraged plants,” she says. “A friend gave me some Cotswold fleeces, which I sent away to be spun, together with some Jacob wool that was also farmed in Gloucestershire. I decided to set up Brentfox Yarns when I had enough to take to a festival.”
