So you’ve finished Row 1a in light yarn, now you’ll work Row 1b in dark yarn. Place the dark yarn working loop on the hook and remove the marker. The ch4 starting chain will sit behind the light yarn on this row.
Step 1
*Work an interlocking front treble into the next treble of dark yarn in the same way as before (reversing the instructions for the light and dark yarns), ch1, interlocking back treble, ch1; repeat from * until you reach the turning chain on the row below. You’ll need to work one more interlocking front tr into the third ch of the ch-4 starting chain – you might find it helpful to mark the correct chain with a stitch marker each time you ch4 in the dark yarn. Work the ch4, remove the hook and place stitch marker in working loop. Turn the fabric now. Next, you’ll work Rows 2a and 2b, which are very similar to Rows 1a and 1b.
