Maintain Your Home on Wheels

At the time of planning this issue, the Canadian snowbird season was in full swing as countless RVers across the country began making their way to southern destinations for the winter.
Long-distance travels often go smoothly when we are prepared and RV maintenance is up to date. It’s still important, however, to understand that consistent touring can put added stress on many components. If you’re hauling a heavy trailer or driving a motorhome across the U.S., you need to routinely inspect vital hitch components, monitor engine fluid levels, do tire pressure checks, to name just a few of the tasks. These are all essential and can easily be done while at a rest stop or highway gas station.
There are many benefits of enjoying winter in the Southern U.S. and one advantage is that you can stay current with RV maintenance and/or repairs when needed. The freshwater water tank may need some sanitizing (as reported in this issue) or unexpected water may begin to trickle in the interior through a leaking window seal (also reported in this issue).
These minor fixes and maintenance (as well as others) can be addressed easily enough with a little DIY knowledge and by understanding your RV. If there’s severe damage, RV dealers and/or service centres are widely available and can accommodate your needs.
Your RV is considered a home on wheels and should be properly maintained for safe travels. As a result, you’ll be comfortable, prepared for more extended travelling, and enjoy your long-anticipated southern destination worry-free.
