When Chevrolet designed these gems, it made it easy for the average person to swap out mechanical parts and didn’t over-complicate the drivetrain with confusing electronics. Plenty of room in the engine bay made parts exchanges simple, and since the company sold a record number of these trucks, the aftermarket was loaded with OEM replacement parts that were affordable and readily available. The problem is, most people would rather spend their extra cash on customizing their ride instead of some much-needed general maintenance.
