Although she loved art from a child, Liza chose not to study it, and initially took a completely different path. ‘After high school, I checked out different art and design schools but I didn’t feel that I fitted in to a world of installations and conceptual art. So I got educated as an occupational therapist and worked in psychiatry. I also travelled a lot in Greece, where I ended up meeting Rupert and opening a gallery in Leros in 2002, and finally found my way back to my artistic path.
‘For more than ten years I almost solely painted fruit – in all sorts of different ways, learning about colour, form, composition, perspective, light and shadow. In the past few years I have taken some short courses at West Dean College in Sussex, to get inspiration and to try out new materials.
